Conference Aim
Recognizing the need for an expanded conversation about literacy that transcends disciplinary boundaries
graduate students from several universities have come together through LiteracyStudies@OSU to propose a conference for graduate students from all disciplines to meet as Literacy Studies scholars.
Expanding Literacy Studies aims to create a critical, contextual, and international conversation among disciplines in order to extend the dialogue, explore the landscape, and map the intersections of literacy studies as a framework for critical investigation. This conference further aims to expand and critique the field by actively pursuing contrasting and complementary perspectives and modes of understanding from the social and natural sciences as well as the arts and humanities, education, medicine, law, and beyond.
Expanding Literacy Studies features an open call for research on literacy broadly defined and an innovative program that encourages dialogue among participants. LiteracyStudies@OSU is confident that students from diverse disciplines across the globe will build on an already-established interdisciplinary foundation by gathering to participate in discussions that will expand ideas and understandings about literacy. With unprecedented support from The Ohio State University, LiteracyStudies@OSU intends to expand perspectives by speaking to disciplines and practitioners that are "outside the comfort zone" of traditional approaches to the study of literacy.
